I'm debating on getting a Moto X Designed by Me edition when my contract is up next month and looking for opinions on the pro's & con's

Well keep in mind that it might be better to wait a few more months for the 3rd Gen. I mean, the Moto X is the best phone I've ever had (I even like the camera), but it's only bound to get better.

The Moto X is a great phone. I have a Note 4 as well and I like it for all it does but it isn't nearly as smooth or easy to use as the Moto X. As was mentioned, the new moto x will be coming out late summer probably. Just weigh how much you need a phone right now. The 2015 Moto X looks to be very nice with some potentially nice upgrades. Hopefully the camera is improved. The current camera isn't terrible it's a far cry from some others that I use.

I think its a good shout by Luke to hold on for a few months for the moto x 2015, but maybe you don't wanna wait for that? Where I don't agree with Luke though is the camera on the moto x 2014. It is in my (and many other people's) opinion very bad. The rest of the phone is great and I would recommend it to anyone as long as they're willing to put up with the rubbish camera. I bought the phone after reading several reviews and knew that it wasn't going to be the best camera ever. But I was still seriously surprised and disappointed with just how bad it is. Decent phone otherwise.

1) Have no idea what your needs are, how you intend to use it, your tastes/preferences in design, form factor, etc., and not going to guess.

2) If you're looking to buy at a discount your choice is the X'14 now (or next Motorola sale) or wait until end of November (CyberMonday) for first sale on the X'15. That's six months from now, so you have to decide on wait. If you're will to pay full price then your wait is +/- 4 months.

Well...if the timing is similar the 2015 Moto X will come out around Sep or Oct...so I guess it depends on how bad you want a new phone.

I got mine on a 2yr upgrade on 4/1...and I love it. Honestly the hardware in this model is great and would likely serve you well...but its close enuf to the next one now to warrant thought.

Very bad? I think that depends on what you are comparing it to. I had an Xperia Play and Moto X 2013 and the camera is better than the cameras on both of those phones. The iPhone 5 camera was better in some scenarios.

It can't compete with the Samsung Galaxy S5/6, iPhone 5s/6/6+, LG G3/4, and Sony Xperia Z3/4 and that is a shame and unacceptable.

Agreed. As good as the 2014 Moto X is, if it were me I'd hold off until the 2015 is available.

I just grabbed a used one a few weeks ago and love this phone. I had the 2013 edition, and loved it but broke the screen. The camera seems adequate to me. I took a few really great shots with it on mothers day. I know it's not as good as the new flagships, but it isn't awful by any stretch.

The phone is solid. Feels great in the hand and looks awesome. I actually prefer using this over my 6 plus at times. I think if you do get the 2014 version make sure it's the pure edition. It's basically stock android without the carrier bloat and you still get all the cool stuff that the x has to offer. The camera is terrible. I can never take a good picture with it on the first try. Make sure you get it cheap or on sale like I did. I got the x and the wireless tracks air headphones for 400 bucks on sale during the mother's day special. Also added the the moto 360 for another 200 dollars which was also on sale. I would recommend not getting the 2015 model until its been out for a few months and you can get it on discount because they always drop down in price. I say go for it. U won't regret it.

I think its reasonable to describe a camera that regularly refuses to focus and results in me having to send blurred, out of focus photos to people on regular occasions as very bad. If you think that's good enough for a flagship smartphone in 2014 then that's great. But I personally think its appalling. Its actually embarrassing having to send people pictures like that.

I love mine! I say go for it. You got nothing to lose. If you end up not liking it then you can send it back.

It's the best phone I've owned, but whether you get one now comes down to money. A 2015 model is coming out in 3 or 4 months. If you've got plenty to spend, get the 2014 now (off contract) and enjoy it. When the new one comes out you can always get it and keep your 2014 as a backup, or sell it on ebay.

If your dollars are tight, I'd hold out for the new model.

I agree the camera is pretty bad by today's standards. I compensate by always taking several shots to get one I can live with. Worse-than-average cameras seem to be a problem with all Moto phones and not just the X, however. That being said, everything else about this phone is just stellar. It has great reception, excellent call clarity, awesome Moto Display software, and heck fire it's a real looker too. If a terrific camera isn't a necessity for you, then the Moto X is hard to beat.

I'm currently enjoying my cinco de mayo sale pure edition. So far I'm very impressed. The moto voice is a step ahead of the 2013 and is more reliable. The most surprising thing is the battery life. This phone got a lot of bad press over battery life, but the 2014 is way better than the 2013. The camera is fine for me, but then I'm not picky about cameras (the 2013 camera was just fine for me)

I think it comes down to how you intend to buy. If you are going to buy off contract I'd buy during a sure to come sale for the 2014 as Motorola clears out stock. The 2015 likely won't be on sale until black Friday at the earliest if history is a guide. If you are using an upgrade it would probably be worth it to wait until Aug/Sept for the 2015.

Battery life is beyond abysmal. I have to charge mine 2-3 times a day with moderate use.

Honestly, I would recommend you buy a Moto X 2013 for cheap to hold you over until the 3rd Gen 2015 model comes out, and then buy that one on sale in November/December. I still have my Moto X '13, and it's still a great phone. I only use it for social media, music and videos, etc, not gaming, so I don't push the processor that hard, but it's still smooth and snappy. The camera definitely isn't great but it is OK enough for casual photos, and you can probably find one in good condition for ~$150 or so.

I have a good cond 2013 if you want it $75 shipped. Love my 2014 but can't wait for g4
