That's true. But that's Project Fi, not Google. The warranties for those phones are provided by their respective manufacturers, Lenovo and LG, not Google. Android updates cannot go straight from Google, "as is," to those phones. The updates have to be tested by each manufacturer as the update must be compatible with the hardware and features specific to these phones.
