Decent replacement for an ASUS TF101?

decent replacement for an ASUS TF101

I inherited my brother's ASUS TF101 as my intro to tablets.
after much fiddling, I have concluded that this is the end of its line. (it is just to slow, balky, shutdown riddled, even after complete reinstalls.)

I don't need the latest and greatest. I just do the basics. Browse, read magazines, newspapers and books online, do email.

and I am a cheapskate who always buys stuff that's say 2 years old.

Where can I find recommendations for tablets that were popular in say 2014 but are somewhat outdated now (but which would still be working well)

Welcome to Android Central! Give us some of your preferences, like screen size, budget, etc. Offhand, I'd suggest looking into the following:

2013 Nexus 7
Nvidia Shield
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 or Tab Pro 10.1
Zenpad 8.0
Acer Iconia Tab 8

These are either older devices that are still good but should be cheaper these days (the first 3 listed), or new devices that are pretty cheap and have pretty good reviews.
