Decided to root finally after six months, please help

I had my Evo since Day 1, but I never considered rooting, because I'm very bad with all this hacking stuff. I couldn't even jailbreak my ipod touch correctly and you just press one button! Recently, I've been very bored with my Evo and I want to do different things with my phone and I would love to have better battery life on my phone!
Please help me root my phone and give me any step by step instructions... Yes, I know I can look through the forums and find my answer, but I just wanted personal help if anyone can. All of us were once noobs, so please break your Android pride and help a brother out!

Pm me. But I would expect you to read the stickies first... I suggest the root sticky as well as the hboot. I could walk you thru it, but you'll still have to do it. Unless you find someone on Craigslist. It might be intimidating but its easy, you just need to take time to read and educate yourself. If you want better battery life, rooting your phone won't help if you still don't know what you're doing or how you're doing it...

For example... what would a kernel do for you? You need to know things like this to get the best out of your phone...
