It is a little cumbersome, but if you really want to stop ads from showing up in your apps, just turn off mobile 3g and wifi connectivity. All of the ads typically are uploaded from a Data connection, so if there is no connection...no ads.

Especially for games like Angry Birds or something like that. Of course you will not get data notifications (email, FB updates...)

How do you get the ads to stop when you are rooted. I am rooted and still get the ads.

You can install adfree or you can install droidwall.
Droidwall is a firewall app that you can customize which apps can use 3g/wifi. I just blocked angry birds from having data access for now. No more ads... to bad the update for angry birds sucks and crashes all the time ><
