Default App Settings Issue

Whenever I'm asked which application I would like to use and put a check mark in the default setting box, it doesn't take and the pop up keeps coming up. It does this for everything on my device that I try to open that has multiple applications that could be used.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Try clearing data on the application(s) that do this to you. That will clear defaults and allow you to re-click the default application box.

Unfortunately clearing data, cache and defaults on the apps didn't work.

That's odd. If it happens with more than one app then maybe there's an underlying issue with your software. I'd say give a factory reset a try if you're up for it. If not tell Verizon your phone is extremely overheating and get a replacement handset.

What are you saying here? It doesn't remember the default action at all(i.e. browser opens asks the default, you select it open a webpage, click a link it asks for choice of default action again. Continually, never remembering) or does it remember selectively(i.e. set the action and remembers it but blanks the default actions upon reboots or power cycle etc.,.)

I've seen selective recall before w/ my default browser occasionally. It would pop up and ask me a few times in a row then it would stick. Here's a rant/article from a disgruntled android afficianado that may or may not be your issue. Might be worth eyeballing, though.

I reformatted the internal storage and memory card without a master reset and that didn't help, but I wanted to rule that out.

Before you factory reset. If you haven't tried something similar already. You may wanna hit GPlay and try a 3rd party app like Default App Manager to clear all the default app settings and set the default actions via the app itself. See if that does anything.

Unfortunately I had to master reset the device to resolved the issue. Thanks again for all your advice. It's greatly appreciated.

Did you move the app to the SD card? This will cause your default app to forget on reboot (iirc).

I know this is an old thread but thought to post what I found so as to help others.
From PlayStore download a cache cleaner.
I used Clean Master...but probably any "cleaner" or "optimizer" will do the trick.

Key is to strip the caches.
I didnt lose anything ...except the glitch.
