There are a bunch of threads about how if you use gmail, the only way to get push notification is to use the native gmail app, instead of the built-in mail client. I get that. But where is my "push" option for other types email accounts? I set up a new email account that is an IMAP account (it is NOT a yahoo/hotmail/exchange account). Under "sync, send & receive" --> "peak time sync" there is no "PUSH" option. I only have "smart sync," "manual," and the other time intervals like "5 min, 15 min," etc.

My understanding is that IMAP and POP email accounts are not "pushed" to your phone by the email server, so you need to poll it at regular intervals and download your email. Only Microsoft Exchange and Blackberry email servers are push providers. Normally, you can fake out most email client apps to treat Google's email servers as push (by setting them up as Microsoft Exchange), but I can't get it to work with the HTC One's native Email app.

Hmm. The K9 email client has a "push" option, as well as a "poll" option. Does that mean they just fake a "push" with continuous polling?

I believe you need IMAP IDLE for push mail, but I don't know if the native email client can support that.
