Default notification sound overrides native notification sound in apps

I noticed this when I upgraded my old 1 XL to Pie, and now that I have the 3 XL, it's painfully obvious. And it's become a pain!

Apparently, Pie now requires apps that use their own proprietary notification sound -- think Life360, ESPN, and the like -- to have a notification sound selection setting in the app, or Pie will just use the default notification sound.

I don't know what would be easier, lobbying Google to change this back to the pre-Pie standard of allowing apps to use their own notification sounds without a setting for the user to select that sound or others, or lobbying each individual app developer to provide a notification sound selection setting in the app.

Any thoughts on this?

Yes, this issue is very frustrating! I just purchased an LG G8 running Pie and nearly ALL of the app-specific notifications got replaced by the system-wide default notification sound (including custom app-specific ringtones or alarms). Even Google apps like 'Calendar' were affected. The only solution I found was to manually download MP3/OGG/WAV sound files to the respective 'Notifications' or 'Ringtones' folder and then manually re-select them from each affected notifications settings page.

This issue is a careless and gross oversight on Google's part - costing users hours of reconfiguration time and a degraded notification experience.
