Delayed Activation, Still Use DX on Wifi?

For various reasons, I may have to delay activating my DX on the Verizon network after I receive it. Has anyone used the DX on a Wifi connection to play with the it before they activated it on the Verizon Network?

On power up, does the DX force one to activate it on the network?

I believe you cannot use the phone until its activated.
I got a replacement and on initial boot, it forced me to activate the phone.

You can u use wifi its tap each corner top left then clock wise to by pass the screen
