Delayed notifications

So I've had my Pixel just over a day, and mostly I'm loving it! The only thing that is bothering is me is a pretty major issue though. Hangouts and email notifications don't seem to load unless I open the app. I've already gone into battery settings and set Hangouts to not optimized, but that didn't help. Anyone else experiencing this or have any suggestions what to do?

It's really not OK getting texts and then not being notified until I open the app.

You'd think it would be some synch setting, how often to synch the app kinda thing? Not sure what new features Nougat has in that area.. Presumably you have background data on of course. Have a peek in the app settings too for synch frequency adjustments... Good luck, let us know if it helped, or how you finally fixed it. I'm sure you will not be the only one with this issue...

It is related to doze. Check to make sure those apps you want notifications for are excluded from doze. That should clear up your problems.

Just got off the phone with Pixel support. After having me uninstall and reinstall updates to both hangouts and gmail with no success, my issue has been escalated to the Pixel team itself, who described it as an "emerging issue". They said they'd be back to me within the day about it, so I'll post here once I have more.

Now this is actually a very cool thing because we will have that dedicated 24/7 support........

So was this issue fixed for you? I'm getting this after about a days use, affecting mainly Facebook Messenger and Signal. Doze off. Reboot doesn't help, I have to reinstall to fix it. However the issue resurfaces after about another day.

Anyone else?

This is happening to me as well and is SUPER annoying because otherwise I love the phone. But man, this just isn't how a phone should work. What is the point of not getting an alert unless you open the app? I found this link which says to try disabling Google Connectivity Services and/or battery optimizations for the app(s). I tried disabling Google Connectivity Services to see if this helps. So far no issues but I'm constantly in and out of my email apps during the day so I really won't be able to tell until later when I'm off work. Wait I spoke too soon. I have my work email setup in Gmail and Nine to test and I just got notified of the email in Gmail but not Nine. I gave it a few more minutes and it did not come through until I opened that app. So yeah, It's still not working here either.

Did any of you find a solution to this problem?
In my case I receive gmail notification but in delay that can be few minutes to few hours.

I *think* it is because the app is dozing.

Try going to Settings -> Battery -> [menu] -> Battery optimization -> All apps -> and disable optimization for GMail (or any other apps that seem to be a concern).

No issues here. Something you installed is causing it.

The fact that you have no issues doesn't mean that something I installed is causing it.
I think it is more of a case that you have issues but you just don't know about it.
Check immediately when you get notification for new gmail the time the email was received.

I changed the battery optimization settings and everything is fine.

Count me in as having noticed the issue. And it seems to be intensifying for some reason. In fact, after I delete e-mails from the notification shade, the device then proceeds to deliver the customized notification sounds for said e-mails I already deleted and the shade attempts to reorganize itself in the process. It's cycling through stored up actions even though the items affected by those stored actions have been cleared/removed.
