Now you can delete a word you don't want in your predictive text, but can you delete word combinations you don't want anymore? I find my phone guessing sentences that I used a year ago that make zero sense now and I'd like to remove them.

Welcome to Android Central! If you see that combination appear in the predictions, try long-pressing it and seeing if a Delete option appears.

It does not appear if it is multiple words on one box. For example, I just had the word suggestion "to be" after I typed 'It does not appear' ^ in this comment and the delete option doesn't pop up after holding on it.

I'm not sure if there's any other way. I would guess that Google uses machine learning to decide what to show, and if you never tap it (or rarely type that phrase), it will eventually not be suggested.

What keyboard app are you using? I just tried it in Gboard. If I type "whatdo," I get "What do" and "What does" as a couple of options. If I long-press one of them, I see a Remove Suggestion and a trashcan icon appear. You don't see that?

Samsung keyboard (English). That long-press is not an option for me. Are there different and more customizable keyboards?

As mentioned above, Gboard (Google's own keyboard app) can do it. The keyboard works quite well, and has some nice ways you can customize it (e.g, adding your own background images). I don't know about other 3rd party keyboard apps, but it's worth giving Swiftkey a try.

why the hell wouldn't android have an adequate keyboard? seems like a vital part of a smart phone
