The reason CyanogenMod on the Vibrant isn't completely stable is because of the way Samsung designed the bootloader and some of the drivers. The devs have had to do a lot more hacking than is usually required. Honestly, it's still pretty stable, I'm using it as my daily driver right now.

If you don't want to try that, than just give it a few days. The international Galaxy S just got Gingerbread, and devs are working right now to build ROMs for the US variants.

I read about that, so i went to Kies and i have the latest already, which for the american virbants, is 2.2

oh well.

I already have a android phone with a plan that im happy with, so my galaxy will never see a SIM card or 3G access, probably not even GPS use. only wifi, but ill be gaming on it and stuff, so is there any problems in the cyanogen builds that would prevent me from using it this way?

Not that I've seen, but I'm not a gamer. If it doesn't work, you can always go back.
