I have been using the Gallery app on samsung A5. Recently I've noticed that photos which i have deleted from Gallery can still be seen on Google Photos app. Initially i thought that Photos might have been getting its photos from the cloud but they can be seen even if there is no wifi or phone connection to the cloud

Does this mean that, if i want to delete a photo from the phone, i need to delete it from both apps? If true, this seems a bit strange.

You can't delete from Gallery or Photos, they're apps, not storage locations. If you delete a picture when you're in one, and tell it to delete from Google Photos, then restart the phone, the other one shouldn't see it.

Does this mean that, if i want to delete a photo from the phone, i need to delete it from both apps?
No, as I said, the pictures aren't in the apps, they're in the phone and, perhaps, in Google Photos. But they show pictures in the Media Scan database, and it's possible that, for some reason, Media Scan isn't being triggered to rebuild the database when you delete pictures (it should be). Running media.Re.Scan or restarting the phone rebuilds it.

Hi Rukbat, thanks for getting back.
There are a couple of other things which are probably now worth mentioning:
1. Although deleting an image from Gallery does not remove it from Photos, deleting an image from Photos does delete it from Gallery.
2. If I go into Samsung's My Files and look under my files/images/camera I find that all the deleted images (whether from Photos or from Gallery) have disappeared so that My Files reflects Gallery exactly

But if all the Gallery deleted images have disappeared from My Files where the heck is Photos getting them from since they are still appearing there.

I'm having the same problem with Galaxy 8s.
I've also found the explanation about "deleting photo means delete it from the cloud, and not from one device", but as mentioned here, I'm also deleting a photo from my mobile and as I open Photos on the computer- it is still there!
I also tried go back to the mobile and remove it from trash, still no change- I watch Google Photos on the PC and still can see the picture.
I've also tried the same things exactly vice versa (deleting a photo from the PC) and the same problem occurred again, I open the other device (mobile this time) and could find the picture in Google Photos.
