Depth of Field blurring issue with camera

So i'm having an issue when taking pictures with my camera that depending on what its focused on, it really seems that anything JUST outside that area is blurry like its really far out of focus.

A test i ran was that i had some text on a sticky note here at work. I put another note just a few inches away. made sure both were visible and even at the same distance from the camera. If it was focused on one sticky note, the other was decently blurry (still readable, but noticeably blurry)

Is there a setting i can change to make this not so dramatic? or is this just the cause of the duo camera set up on the M8?

This also only seems to be an issue "portrait wise" on the phone. If holding the phone in portrait, the left and right are always in focus together. however the top to bottom is the problem.

I'll post a couple pictures to show what i'm talking about in a little bit

EDIT: sorry for the double post, not sure if this is against the rules.

Here we have the "tests". These were all on sticky notes so they were all at the same distance.

Picture 1 you can see "Test 1" is in focus but "Test 3" is blurry
Picture 2 you can see the opposite as i changed focus.

Picture 3 shows that Both "Test 1" and "Test 2" are in focus side to side even though they are at the edges of the picture, however "Test 3" and "Test 4" are blurry.
Picture 4 shows the opposite as i changed focus. You can also see the computer screen gets very blurry as well.

This makes me think its just because of the duo camera because I've had other phones that would not blur something even with the focus changed like that with the focus only being a couple inches away.

The problem is when taking pictures of other things ex: a room or something i want to show someone, it takes depth of field into context too and blurs it even more than this.

Is there anything i can do about this? or am i just stuck with this?

The depth of field at short distances is very small. It has nothing to do with the particular camera, it's physics. If the scene isn't too bright, so you're shooting with an f2.2 lens, and you're shooting at 6", you have a DoF of about 0.08" - from 5.96" to 6.04". See Online Depth of Field Calculator (the focal length for that camera is 28mm, and it's f2.2 when it's wide open). Even a foot from the subject gives you only 0.36" DoF - 1/3" from the closest in-focus object to the furthest in-focus object.

Step back and zoom in and the situation might improve a little. But it's really photography that's getting you, not the particular phone.

I had just figured out why the note 4 camera blurs...u have to press and hold the focus button and then viola picture clears up
