Question regarding using RAW in the pro mode on Honor 8. When I take photos using the manual settings, I notice the RAW/DANG file is much
Brighter than the .jpg of the same shot. Is this normal when shooting
Raw with Huawei phones?

Thanks

The RAW isn't processed the same way the JPEG is. You have to edit the file yourself and export it as a JPEG.

Thanks for the response back. I'm talking about just after I take a shot in the Pro mode
and I get the dng file and the .jpg file of the same shot and the DNG/RAW file is much brighter
than the .jpg. This is before I even start to process the raw or .jpg file. On most of my
other cameras the RAW is fairly close to the EV of the .jpg. Sometimes on the honor 8
the RAW is very close to the .jpg, but other times it might be 2 stops brighter. I use
Lightroom CC, Snapseed, DXO OP 11 and Capture one to process most of my RAW files.

I do notice that sometimes when I do not alter the SS or ISO in pro mode the shots are
closer most of the time. Of course I like to keep the ISO as low as possible for noise
and shoot a long exposure on a tripod. Other than this small problem most of my shots
are really nice and a few clients asked me if I had purchased a new camera. I have lately
been using my Honor 8 with the Beastgrip.com device and the approx. 21mm wide angle
lens. Overall I am excited with the Honor 8 and I often wonder how much better the
camera would be on a Huawei P10 plus or the new Mate 10 Pro?

Thanks again,

Thanks again,
I think it's just Huaweis software that unlike other phones/camera doesn't keep the preview for the RAW the same as the processed JPEG. I think that if I shoot RAW+JPEG on my DSLR I can switch the JPEG to black and white (might not be possible but I think I have done it) and the result will be a colour RAW (preview) and a black and white JPEG. The software could choose to show the preview for the RAW in black and white to stay true to the JPEG, but it would still of course retain all the colour data.

The camera sensor and software is more or less the same on all those three phones, I think. But the lenses is somewhat different. The P10 and Mate 10 had the Leica brand that might just be PR but they do have a brighter lens. The Honor 8 is a f.2.2 and the on the P10 you have the same but the P10+ is a f.1.8 lens. The Mate 10 goes all the way to f.1.6.

If I picked the right photos there is a RAW processed in Lightroom, RAW processed in Snapseed and the JPEG attached. Shot and edited on my P10+
