is it not strange that it wouldnt completely fit. they have the same RAM and ROM right? did they find a way to carve out a little additional memory for the sense stuff? also with memory being dirt cheap why in the hell do they not put a stinking gig of RAM and ROM in these phones? trust me i would pay the marginal increase in cost.

I visited the XDA site and the port does not look buggy at all. Very few bugs. Hope this is dropped soon. I want my Nexus one to get a great build and that requires tons of testing. That is where curent N1 users come in.

For those of you who have not checked out the link here are what the ROM contains or is lacking...

- If you rebuild the boot image replacing the kernel it runs. I'm running my own custom kernel with himem and bits.
- The system.img doesn't fit on the N1 (!), it's nearly 200MB. I booted by moving some stuff off the system partition.
- The trackball works.
- The 4 bottom keys work.
- The proximity sensor works.
- The LED works.
- The light sensor works.
- The compass and G sensor work.
- The camera works fine and is great with face recognition and touch focus.
- The FM radio loads, but makes no sound / finds no stations it seems. Maybe we need Desire radio ROM?
- The build I have is watermarked - i've removed the obvious visual watermarks but no, you can't have this release - when I get a watermark free drop, yes!
- Flash 10.1 is included and works well.
- It's FAST!
- WiFi works
- Bluetooth works
- 800x480 video recording, camera maxes out at 3MP (fixed in later builds)

- Mic not yet working - likely related to the voice cancellation feature (not tried to fix this yet)

Not stable enough, at least not for me. It sure in interesting though...

He recently fixed the mic and FM radio.
Only issue now is the camera.
He is releasing a beta build this weekend.

Here's an update - getting closer to a beta release to flash our N1's!

Full thread can be found here.

"My nightly update... we're 99% there!

I have a few bits to finish up then it'll be fit for release (albeit with the graphical glitches and cam issue that will likely remain until the next Beta drop).

It's taken a bit longer than i'd hoped because I went back to the beginning, documented for myself everything I did etc. so that when the next Beta comes, I can push it out double-quick!

Not sure if i'll have something up tonight (it is 6:30pm Friday night here after all), but if not I will DEFINITELY have something up for you all tomorrow, which is 'something to play with at the weekend' as promised!

It's really looking good aside from the problems that are in the code purely because it's 2 months prior to release date... when the final release appears I'm confident we'll be able to take full advantage of all the features (except maybe the FM radio) with the added benefit of our lovely noise cancellation! I now know I will be keeping my Nexus One and don't need a Desire.

When the release comes it'll be as a pre-baked update zip for everyone and in an online kitchen for MoDaCo premium members. If you plan to get a kitchen build and you're not signed up to Ad Free or MoDaCo Plus yet, links are in my sig.

Until later...

P"
