Device does not recognize external Harddrive

[AC Question]

Good day, I wanted to know if anyone could help me out with an issue I am having. I have an external USB hardrive, and previously was able to mount it on my LG G3 device so I could watch movies on it. However I got a LG G4 device, and updated it to 6.0. Now when I try and connect it to my device it does not even recognize the device is hooked up. When I try connecting a regular USB stick it recognizes that. I tried connecting my HD to my friends samsung G6 and it read all the files on the HD through the file managers. I have tried using different file managers. If someone else knows the solution and could provide me with it I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
