0.jpgHello,

I've researched and researched and researched some more to no avail. I got the Note 9 on September 11, 2018. Love the phone, love(d) the battery life. I have yet to use any power saving modes because of how good the life was.

Approximately 2 days ago, 09/19/2018, I checked my battery usage because I noticed my battery was draining a lot faster than usual. Upon doing so, it showed Device Idle being a huge culprit and that Device Idle was active the entire time since the phone was disconnected from charging and it never goes away or stops. Device Idle is 24/7 on my usage list. It never showed up prior to this.

The last three days I have done extensive research in regard to the possibilities. I turned off all google services with the exception of the PlayStore (I don't use them anyway), turned off all location services, only have wifi on when I'm home, only have bluetooth on when I'm driving, toggled with settings, restarted the phone, shut down the phone, etc. I have read countless articles, downloaded "Greenify" and "Doze," and the phone continues to be in Device Idle 24/7. It never has done this until now. I haven't downloaded any apps prior to this.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, were you able to fix it? I don't really want to do a factory reset just yet but I am leaning toward that.

Today, 09/21, I have had the phone disconnected from the charger for 6 hrs 45 min, Devile Idle shows for 6 hrs 44 min. I had a full charge at 100%. Since being disconnected from the charger with MINIMAL USE, I have went from 100% to 75%. Prior to this, with MINIMAL USE, I would be sitting at 85%-90%.

Any input will be appreciated.

You're still getting great battery life. I would suggest turning everything back on, uninstalling the third-party optimizers, and not worrying about it.

But if you want to investigate further, what I'd suggest (after you do the above) is (1) monitoring your phone signal strength (GSam Battery Monitor does that conveniently for you); and (2) booting into Safe Mode for a while and comparing battery usage there. A change in signal strength can have a big effect on battery use. And the contrast with Safe Mode will show whether your third-party apps are using much power.

Yes, my note 9's battery worked well for 3 weeks, then went crazy bad.

So, I experimented and this is what my main system apps look like now.

And now I get 2 full days per full charge:

And there are a number of threads with people complaining about the battery drain, so you'll need to find the solution that works best for you.

It's strange, cos the problem just happens, and then essentially just goes away. One thing for sure, it's a systems thing.

And I'm still not sure if the problem originates with always on display. (I've turned mine off now)
