does anyone plan on getting the dex station for the device? it looks really cool even though i have a high end pc already. im thinking of pulling the trigger because i can get it for 94 dollars let me know if you are getting one as well!

If I pull the trigger on the so then absolutely even if it's only for curiosity sake. I think it looks really cool and I'm sure I have an extra monitor and a Bluetooth keyboard etc laying around.

For me im not planning to get the Dex dock because of how expensive it is and that i already have 2 computers that are much powerful than Samsung dex one of them is a laptop so i will just take a pass on it i already have enough power in my hands

I'm waiting for people to post their experience. I'm sure the Note 8 will support it as well so I might get it down the road.

I heard it's going to cost 1k, so for $94 it's a no brainer, even if you don't like it, you could easily sell it for $600-$700

LOL for $1k they would have been out of their minds! For $150, I would consider it.

Yeah I think people will want to see some more of the functionality to see how well it will sell but I think it looks pretty cool.

So here's a sort of "off the wall" question - is the DeX really going to just be a "S8/Plus" accessory, or if Samsung chose, could this not be used for other high end Android devices that would physically fit with a USB-C connector? I'm thinking that DeX (beyond the hardware of the docking station) is primarily software that could be installed on other devices.

Obviously, Samsung would charge for it (and hopefully would be free on Samsung devices), but if that could be done, it would probably help ensure more widespread adoption.

I'm honestly surprised it's not a pre-order gift. Maybe it'll be a Samsung Pay gift when you add a card like they had off and on since the Note5 launch.

I'm intrigued by the dex after seeing that demo running Citrix.

My office current runs entirely on VM's with a Citrix front-end. We currently have tiny intel boxes powering ultrawide monitors, and all of our design and engineering heavy-lifting happens on the servers.

We already replaced our desk-bound phone network with voip to our mobiles, and the dex could make one more item obsolete. I've seen that the environment shuts down when you dock/undock the phone, but that doesn't affect the persistence of a VM session so it's all good.

What's pushing it over the edge for me is that i can then take that same device and demo our products to staff/clients in the gear vr.

For $150 it's probably worth getting a few to investigate! :)
