DHD Unable to detect Sim

Hey Guys,
I'm new to the forum here just like I am new to android devices as I previously owned a few blackberrys. I love my Desire HD but it keeps telling me unable to detect sim card and then makes me shut down or restart. Is it a software problem or can it be easily fixed?

I had this issue fold a little bit of paper and put it under the sim it seems a hd issue it needs a little pressure
