Dialer issue during phone call

Lately during a phone call when I have to use the dialer (to enter an extension or password) , I find that my first or second press doesn't register andthe screen goes dark. Then I have to hit the power button to awaken the screen, but it goes dark immediately again. This process repeats itself until the third or fourth try when I can enter digits.

Anyone else have this issue? Know of a fix?

You're placing your hand too close to the proximity detector that prevents you from dialing with your ear. Make sure your hand isn't near the top of the phone. I do this all of the time and it can be very frustrating. I just make sure the fingers that aren't dialing are down near the bottom of the phone.

This isn't my problem, but thank you for your response. I suspect it might have something to do with being outdoors at the time the problem arises, but need to check this out further.

Ok, I think I have narrowed the issue down to checking voicemail when I access voicemail from the notification bar at the top of the screen, as opposed to dialing voicemail directly from the dialer

Am I alone with this bug?
