Dialer Storage takes up too much space

I have low storage on my phone and this app seems to take up a bunch of useless space that I can't clear. Does anyone knows how to clear out this app? I know it's a system app but usually it shouldn't take up over half a gig.

I believe "dialer storage" also is where your sms/mms message database is stored. So if you've got a lot of messages, and especially pictures to/from it could well take up a lot of space.
