Did a hard reset of the phone, battery drain still an issue. What is the main cause?

I'm on a Sprint Note 3 with Lolipop v5.0, got the phone used & everything works fine except the battery basically ticks away a percentage ever 3 seconds.
I tuned power savings on, turned off vibrations, turned off sound, lowered brightness & that did nothing to help.

Is Lolipop update the reason for the drain.
I'm also on a LTE connection, I heard that it drains the battery way more than a wifi connection does or 3G does.

Are there any apps specifically that might be the cause?
I replaced the TouchWiz launcher with Nova Launcher & that didn't change the battery drain.

Have you considered changing the battery? If you bought it used, maybe the battery is no longer good. Definitely 1% every 3 seconds it's not normal. That means your phone would only stay on for 5 minutes. Not even a buggy release would do that without overheating the phone too much.

I would try putting your phone in Airplane mode (and maybe enter into Safe Mode too) and see how the battery fares that way. If you have a way of testing another battery before you buy it, that would be awesome too.

Oh, and I don't know if it helps, but Nova drained my battery too fast on my Note 4 and on Tab S. Not sure if it's a Samsung thing or Nova has become very buggy, but that's how it was for me.
