Get around to re-instating access to the SD card?

I'm still not happy (http://forums.androidcentral.com/android-4-4-kitkat/389885-not-happy.html) they locked it out in the first place!

I'm only asking to save trawling a large forum looking for the answer.
I've disabled automatic updates for the operating system and seldom update installed apps because i simply don't trust devolopers anymore.
Who know what features they will add in and what they will take out. Esspecialy the darned usefull features like being able to fully utilies external storage.

If the question has been asked, or better still answered with a "yes", then if anyone can point me in the direction of that particular thread.
If it is still a "No" then :'(

I think it's fixed in 5.0 but not 4.4.

"IF" it has been re-instated in 5.0 that then leads to another question.

Will The UK version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) on EE PAYG be getting the 5.0 update? A "quick" thumb through the forum and it sounds like 5.0 is a right mess and doesn't work too well and/or full of annoying rubbish? Which kind of puts me off even checking for updates.
Why take a "New" (cough, cough) operating system full of rubbish just to get back one really usefull feature?

Everything I've read indicates 5.0 fixed the problem, but I don't have first hand experience. It also seems stock/OEM browsers still kept the ability and it only affected third party apps and browsers.
