Did I brick my phone?

My s3 (model sch-i535) was previously rooted. Due to the constant nagging of a system update that I have been deferring for some time, I decided that it was time to go to CyanogenMod. I pulled the nightly build and the gapps zips onto the micro sd card, used GooManager as per an instructional video to get a different boot loader, and went into the boot loader, created a backup, installed the two zips and flashed. I did not wipe the data first because I thought I could keep the old data too. Well. Apparently not. Now, whenever I boot, I see "Samsung Custom" and it goes to "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone..." I can no longer boot the recover screen. Pwr+VolUp+Home... I always find my way back to the Verizon message. I can still boot to Oden mode, but every PDA I try says it was successful. The system reboots, and the problem remains. Is there _anything_ I can do? Am I totally screwed?

Update: still no improvement. I got a hold of KIES_HOME_L710VPBLJ7_L710SPRBLJ7_329968_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5 and used Oden. On the device, it says, "SECURE CHECK FAIL : sbl2". The Oden tool shows:

It sounds like even though the phone was rooted the bootloader was still locked... Take a look at this link and see if it can get u back to a working stock phone. If so you can start over fresh

Once you get back to stock and if you root again if you want to stop update notification you need to change the extensions of 4 files in the system/app folder.

FWUpgrade.apk
FWUpgrade.odex

SDM.apk
SDM.odex

just add .bak to the end of each and you will be set

This isn't even the right firmware for your Verizon phone. If you don't find a link to the correct firmware you're better off using the Kies software on your PC to reload the stock firmware - that will take the guesswork out of the whole process.

Ah! You rock! That link's download saved my phone. After following its instructions, I got stuck on the 4g lte screen, but then I was able to get back to the recovery screen and wipe data and cache and the phone is back to original. Thanks! Now, with this safety net... back to CyanogenMod... I think.
