Did the 4.3 update just brick my phone???

Needless to say I'm fairly pissed off. I ignored trying to root my phone exactly because of problems like this and you mean to tell me it just ends up happening anyway with the official update.

So I tried to OTA 4.3 yesterday, like everyone else. Everything went smooth installation-wise, I thought, except now the phone won't launch past the logo. After that I get this black screen, and I can't seem to do anything about it. I tried even doing a factory reset but nothing's working. Any help?

Can you get into recovery?

Also it didn't brick it... Brick means won't turn on at all.

No. I can't do anything. Whatever I try to do, it ends up booting into a black screen. I can access the screen that prompts me to recover, but that's it, and it doesn't work.

The phone's not DEAD but it's clearly corrupted, somehow

Since you can get into recovery, i would find a tutorial on youtube regarding how to unlock the bootloader and root your phone. This way you can install a custom rom to boot into.

Brick generally means its not usable. It may be a soft brick but a brick all the same.

Did you do a hard reset?

Mine did the same thing. It would bring up the white htc screen and that was it. I hard reset it and no luck. Took it to the sprint repair and they had no luck either. Of course blamed it on power dying during the upgrade. I was at 75% power when it started. Anyway, got a new phone. Hate reloading everything. Now I am afraid to update the new phone.

This is true.. I am just educating. On more advanced Forums a bricked device literally means it's a brick.. And nothing else.

Meant no harm :).

Take it back to store. Unfortunately sometimes this happens.

Same thing happened to me. Can't get into recovery - it just sits at the initial boot screen ("HTC quietly brilliant"). Sometimes when restarting it will play the beginning of the AT&T jingle, but cut off before playing the whole thing. Sometimes it will just be silent (quietly not brilliant).

Same here...the 4.3 update downloaded and installed this morning, came back to the phone and it was a black screen. Won't turn on, no charging light when it's plugged into the wall, and none of the button combinations seem to do any good. Taking it back to AT&T tonight.

Its not bricked. As the other poster stated, a brick phone won't turn on at all or you would possible see a quick flash and then nothing.

Try this, with the phone off, hold power and volume down for 30 seconds or so. It will boot to the boot loader. Let it sit there for a minute and do a factory reset from there. Also you can try letting the phone battery die then full charge without turning it on. When light goes green, try to turn it on.

Hope it helps... Good luck

Same thing just happened to my T-Mobile HTC One!! It keeps power cycling now and I can't seem to get it to do a factory reset even!!! T-Mobile has no solutions right now!

Same happened to me or more exactly to my wife's htc one,I updated it OTA this morning and she called me from her workplace and said that the phone just would not charge or turn on no matter what.

Wife came home and I just did a hard reset phone is back to up but will be monitoring that thing..
