Did the new update cause Ingress to run in the background 24/7?

It doesn't show up in my apps list anymore when I try and close it. I was down for doing a little data mining when I could choose when and where I was doing it, but the Nexus 4's battery is nothing to brag about and I don't think I want this running all the time

Had the same problem downloaded app quarantine from the market but still didn't stop it from using battery in background.
