Ok so I just got my LG G4 and I didn't realise I was meant to charge it a few hours before opening it, and I played on it a few hours whilst it was charging which btw was very slow, I closed it now and it's charging, is this going to have a long term effect on the battery life or anything? and if so will a simple battery swap fix this? thanks in advance.

No, you'll be just fine. There are plenty of good reads about battery life and proper charging. Generally, try not letting the device fully discharge before waiting to recharge it. And if possible, charge when the device reaches 20 to 30 percent.

Relax...

It shouldn't matter at all. Modern Li-Ion batteries are not nearly as sensitive to this as were earlier battery technologies.

Thanks alot guys! you really helped me out and I am feeling much less paranoid now xD...

The slow charging during use is normal for this phone. For whatever reason, LG programmed it so it reduces the charge rate when in use. As you saw, shutting the screen off lets it charge faster (which is actually pretty fast imho).
