Are the words Modem and radio two words for the same thing? Is flashing modem the same as flashing radio?

yep same thing,,,,radio part of the code handles cell reception and modem data

Thanks, I'm deciding how to proceed. GPS and data signals are not what they were on 2.8. 2.9.1 helped somewhat. I'm going to try the DL09Modem linked in an another post in this thread.

folks are getting mixed results. i got probably the best gps i have ever gotten on 2.9. did you wipe data and cache when you flashed 2.9?

hey Gunner

I sure did.

Couple of nights ago I burned it down to DI01 and you had me format all mount points except SDCARD and SD-EXT. (I appreciate learning about that)

So yes SC 2.9 was flashed over a very clean system EA28 rooted and CWM installed). Than flashed to 2.9 and the 2.91 patch flashed yesterday.

No other changes besides the patch and reverting to TW Quick Panel and manually adding a shutdown animation.

Both 3g and Wifi don't seem to be as strong either, but harder to say about those.

You might not recall but I installed SC 2.9 six ways and back trying to get an install that I did not have to flash EB01 kernel OVER EB01 kernel (yes you read that right) to get WiFi working. I never did get it working without having to reflash the kernel.

I wiped cache/dalvik (never hurts). Rebooted then shutdown. Restarted in Download mode. Pushed DL09Modem.tar. Put the battery back in and powered up.

Went outside with a (very) partial view of the sky (tall trees) and got lock (using GPS Status) in about 5 seconds. And I'm keeping lock inside something I couldn't do before I flashed DL09Modem. I didn't reset AGPS stats or anything, but I did have Google location services which I always keep enabled.

First thing I noticed is that it found 8 Sats right away. Where earlier tonight with a very clear view of the sky it was slow to find more than three Sats and locks were slow.

I'm going to flip back just to see what happens. I'll report back in a little while. Maybe it will be one of those cases where when you flash back it keeps the 'goodness'.

SC 2.9.1 just became my favorite ROM. No clock lag, really good battery life, and now good GPS lock.

update:

I flashed EB01 Modem and did everything the exact same way. Stood in the same spot, turned on the phone inside and GPS outside, everything.

Lock was slower but still not bad. I tried it twice, once clearing AGPS data so it would be a fresh fix. Instead of almost instant it took maybe 10 seconds and again the sats came up 1, pause, 2 pause, 3 pause . . . where each pause was about 1 second. On DL09 I had 5 sats in practically an instant and 8 and locked easily within 5 seconds. Same results inside. Slower to get the Sats and longer to lock. Again maybe 10 seconds to lock. Not too bad for inside.

Im going to keep it at EB01 modem for a day and see what I think.

I wonder is there any downside to running the DL09 Modem on an otherwise EB01 phone?
