Difficult to Reach Power Button With One Hand

I really like almost everything about the One.

One sticking point for me however is the location of the power button. It's a tall phone and with the button on top, it's very difficult to reach the button and turn the screen on one-handed. Large phones should have the power button on the side, because then you can press the power button with your forefinger and unlock the screen with the thumb without having to change the position of your hand (and without needing 2 hands).

I'm also left-handed, so it's even more difficult to reach that button on the top left with the phone in my left hand.

HTC One users: Is this an issue for you (power button on the top)? Did you get used to it?

Yeah I think that's one of the things with a tall phone. But I think it's needed to be there because of the IR blaster for tv remote. See the below thread and see if it helps you. Don't mind the title. Just someone trying to be a wise guy but it could be helpful.

Yes, I know it can be done with one hand as I used to have a One X. But you do have to shift the phone in your hand in a way that becomes uncomfortable, particularly when done repeatedly.

I know it's a trivial matter for most HTC users. However, the Xperia Z/ZL has the power button on the side which also acts as the remote control sensor as well....so it can be done on the side too. Though the One is a better overall handset, I didn't have to shift my hand and wrist every time I wanted to turn the screen on and off with other large android phones.

I found myself hitting the power button on my Evo LTE (top right) with my left hand as i take it out of my pocket because it was easier than using my right hand (would sometimes use my right thumb as i switch hands). I think I will get used to the top left pretty quickly because its easier to get to with my pointer finger on my right hand.

Yeah I know what you mean. I agree that most will. And for others it's not a big deal. It all depends on the user, the size of their hands and if they really care.
And of course it can be done on the side but maybe they thought it was more practical to have it at the top and you'd actually have to redesign some of the internals to move buttons around.

When I used the DNA for a few days or didn't bother me that much and that also has the power on the top but I can definitely see this being an issue for some. Guess people will just have to retrain themselves on unlocking their new device. But this was well known before people could purchase the device. So anyone who really has an issue with it should have read a little more and took it under consideration. Complaining about something that's known before hand is something I don't do. I ultimately make the choice to live with known annoyances and adjust or don't buy. I wouldn't complain about it later. But hey, that's just me. Good luck though.

For those who have had HTC devices before the power button placement won't take any getting used to. They've always been on top, though they have shifted between left and right periodically.
