Problem: Moto G (2013) w/Android 5.1 connects to non-broadcast wifi SSID, if phone's wifi turned off/on. But if wifi signal is lost (out of range or router radio off for reboot, security etc.), phone doesn't auto-reconnect when in range or router radio on again. Phone's wifi must always be turned off/on for phone to scan for “hidden” (non-broadcast SSID). This applies to an open (no security) SSID. Or using WEP, perhaps.
I did some drilling on this one. If my solution works I will post it below. Please don't lecture about how not broadcasting an SSID doesn't offer meaningful security, and how ridiculous it is to have an open system. Packet-sniffers be damned, the setup suits some circumstances just fine. Really.
