Is there any way to dim or turn off the navigation buttons when using the stock Android or Timely alarm clocks?

My display buttons only light up when it's not dark out. They stay off completely whey watching videos.

I know you could root and disable the backlight with Xposed.

I use screen filter for an additional boost in dimming when privacy is needed. But never for dimming the capacitive buttons...
