Dinc was always bad for texting, but worse after Froyo! Limit 10 people?

I really love my DInc but the text messaging is the worst I have ever had and it just got even worse after FROYO (limit to 10 recipents!). The only way I know how to explain my problem is to give an example. Sorry for long story, but if u have any advice, i would greatly appreciate it because I love the phone, but this is going to send me looking for another phone since I cant find a software option to resolve my issue.

I have about 500 contacts in my phone, catorgized by Biz, Family, Friends who i ride bicycles with and friends I ride motorcycles with . I like to send out a mas text to my bike or motorcycle friends when I am going riding, however, I go to differnt places to ride and I need to invite only select people to differnt places (and not invite others). Each catagory has approximately a 100 people. I usally invite 30 people, differnt people each time.

I have tried Group SMS Pro, Handcent and even though they are great programs in thier own way, noe of these programs allow you to just view the catagory and then select the ones from that catagory who u want or send to the entire group. I beleive they all require me to look thru all 500 contacts every time!

This may sound like a trival problem, but i ride 3 days a week, I race all over the country and its an important part of life.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

i have scoured the internet and found some options to look at, i figured it would be helpfull for others who have the same issues to post my find here and see if anoyone has any comments, I hate installing too many programs, not sure if this matters but i feel like something gets left on the phone and or modified.

I text like hell and don't see how your "problem" makes the Incredible always bad at texting, this phone is better at texting by a huge margin to any other phone I've had.
I think the subject of the OP could have been a little better thought out, seriously guys, some of the thread topics I've seen here are a little overzealous.
Anyway, with that being said, I'm sure that there is a way to text to 100 people at once for the few that do that or else it could be figured out anyway. The beauty of Android is that if someone hasn't made the app, its quite easy to develop one.

Thanks for the constructive idea! but i think if I do that, thier will be issues where the recievers phone wont recognize the mail in the sms program and he will not know who the sender is (I could sign the message) and I may not know who reply is from. Plus I have 200 people that I would have to create another email for, guess thier carrier (thier are ways that can figure out thier carririer automatically but than I bet they will get spam)

I found a resolution!!! I use Contacts Group U to pick the contacts (allows u to individually pick within a group) than I send it to Handcent to send to more than 10 people

not to invalidate your problem, but I have yet to have that happen... ever.

I use approx 1500 to 2000 sms's a month and a few hundred MMS and I have yet to have someone tell me that they have recieved a blank text.

As I said, I dont want to invalidate your problem, as I have had problems before that others had not, however, If problems like blank texts happen to you, it could be a combination of software you have that I do not that could be causing it.

I currently use hand cent SMS as well as GV (google voice) for sms. The use of Handcent is new however (about 3 months)

Also, to comment on the froyo issue regarding speed, again I cannot confirm the phone to be slower. In fact, ever since upgrading via the RUU the phone has been faster than ever. I am ever impressed at the speed, and my standards are very high. The phone rarley, if ever, stutters when scrolling, opening web pages, opening new pages, changing home screens. I use standard HTC sense UI and sometimes ADW or launcher PRo, depending on my mood. All work flawlessly with the phone.

I am sorry to hear about some of the problems you are having with froyo and the dinc.

To the OP, the poster a few posts above got it right, you can select groups and send them to hand cent to send SMS to as many people as you want (there may be a cap, but its well above 100)

your problem is not with the DINC or Froyo, but rather the method to which you are trying to use it. Mass sms is not a common activity shared by most users.

The dinc has been the best sms device i have used. typing on the touchscreen took a week to get used to, but I came from a BB storm 2 before that so the adjustment was minimal.

The blank text issue does not happen often, but it also is not the first time for me (along with the occasional not being able to turn on my phone , slower charging sincy froyo and random resets). I am surprised that sending texts to more than 10 people is not a common practice for people, but i realize everyone has thier preferences. the Dinc is an incredible (no pun intended) phone, best i have owned to date and I have been using phones since the mid 90's, LOL; however like everything else in life, when thier are lots of options and variables, their is room for things that dont mix well various users

The Droid Incredible is actually the single best texting device I have ever used. It is by far the fastest. And I have had a lot of phones over the years. But blank texts? I have never heard of that one before. Check to see if one of your apps is messing with the software of the phone. I know you can't send a text to someone without at least a character in it.
