I love the look of the white and black 2xl, but what has been your experience with white phones? Of course I know someone will say "wash your hands" 😉 . . But really, hand oils and such being what they are, isn't it likely it will discolor quickly? Just asking, thinking maybe some of you have experience with this and can say "ya" or "cleans up easily" or whatnot. Cases are always an option too but why get this colorway only to cover it up?
Anyway . . Thoughts?

The only reason to go Panda is because you like the look. It doesn't make sense to put a case on Panda unless you go clear. Other option is clear skin, however some are opposed to skinning pandas.🐼

I'd imagine that aluminum can be cleaned and wiped down pretty easily.

I went with a clear case for my panda, because like you said, why would I want to cover up this sweet color way.

Yes, wouldn't want to get peta involved 😉. . . I agree, that's why I'm asking because I would want to go without a case here but if it gets grungy that's obviously not a good look either. Maybe go caseless and if it ends up being grungy then get a case? Re: clear cases, I'm not against them but sometimes they look like the phone is wrapped in bubble wrap.

I agree about the aluminum, but it apparently has some kind of coating, which sounds really nice but may make it harder to clean? Idk . . .

Which case did you choose?

I guess theoretically the coating might be more porous. However, just feeling the back, it still feels incredibly smooth like bare aluminum. Plus, now that we have ip ratings, we don't have to worry about using water to clean it haha.

I bought this one

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU6050069

It's a two pack, so when the case turns yellow, I get to swap it out for a fresh one. Case fits perfect and looks good. Killer deal for $8.

My white Honor 8 has held up very well; but then again, I always have a case on it. Plus, the phone is glass and not plastic so it may be a bit of a fingerprint magnet but I think glass may be a little easier to wipe or hide things. I've had the phone for almost a year and I don't think the white has shown any signs of discoloration.

One piece of advice I'd say is to be careful as to where you place your device if it doesn't have a case on it. Any kind of surface that may be a little smudge-y may be something about which to be cautious.

My concern is scratching the coating and offering slight protection for the glass portion. Peel makes very thin moderate protection cases which look pretty cool. If you don't like that look you can go minimal with a clear skin. Some brands are better than others as far impacting the appearance.

I preordered the rhinoshield bumper case and will probably get a skin to match the Panda phone. :)

osubeaves . . what are your thoughts on the phone itself so far?

It's great. The battery so far has been stupid good. I plugged it in at 32% last night with 16 hours off charger and 4 1/2 hours of SOT. Everything is really fluid and it has no Bluetooth issues. And I like the form factor more than my XL1.

Overall, super super happy.

From the Pixel 2 XL Hardware Tech Specs page...

5. Pixel 2 XL phones have exterior hybrid coatings which are chip resistant, but may chip if the phone is dropped. Some materials, such as leather or denim, may transfer color to Black & White phones; this color transfer may be cleaned with ordinary household cleaners. Learn how to clean your phone's back and sides.

You are so right.

I almost bought the black P2 from the Vz store until they showed me a clear case.

I ordered a Panda from Vz on line, got a clear Otterbox Symmetry case in a bundle. Received my order on 11/15 and have not looked back

I owned an HTC One X (amazing phone in those days btw) and I never had problems keeping the white housing clean. Then again it's made of hard glossy plastic.
My 2XL immediately"absorbed" the color of my cutting board in just a minute of contact. Not sure how the color bled to it, and it took me a while to remove it (with a bit of soapy water on a cloth, as suggested by someone here)
