Chrome seems to be keeping site history and auto-populating the home page with sites that I've visited. Given that Google prides itself on google.com's main page being so simple and clean, I can't understand why they would clutter the Chrome home page with this garbage. What's worse, I can't find anywhere to control or disable this behavior.

Can the auto-creation of these shortcuts be disabled?

I don't think you can change that. You'll need to set a new homepage to load so that it doesn't go straight to that page. To do this, go into the Chrome settings > Home page.

Thanks. Not 100% ideal for me because I would like to have a blank page and not instantly make a connection because I opened the browser.
