Disable lockscreen?

Come on, that uber-stiff power button is never going to be accidentally pressed while in your pocket. So is there a way to completely disable the lockscreen slider on the phone and jump straight to the main homescreen when the power button is pressed?

Have you tried No Lock?

I used it on my OG Droid occasionally. It was a tad glitchy, but did what it was suppose to overall. I haven't tried it on my D3.

I use No Lock too. No problems with it and it removes one of the D3's minor annoyances. There are a few other relevant applications in the market, including Lock Control and several clones of No Lock.

Good call on the No Lock. I hadn't really thought about it, but it's true that I probably don't need the lock screen up with as stiff and low-profile as the lock button and volume buttons are. It's working good for me and I really like not having to slide to unlock every time I turn the screen on.

Just to be clear, with No Lock I can turn off the screen without locking it, if I so desire? If so, how would I wake up the screen? If not, is there an app where I can turn off the screen or let it time out without locking it, and wake it by, say, tapping the screen?

You are thinking of it kinda backwards. Using No Lock allows you to wake up the phone without having to do the swipe to unlock your phone... Just press the button, and its on. A swipe action (unlock) is no longer needed.

But the only way to wake it up is with the button (or the volume rocker)?

Went into the apps section and cannot find No Lock. Is it called something else? Am I looking in the correct spot? If not, how and where do I get it and install on my phone? I also noticed that every app has a disclaimer that the app will be billed at a rate unless you have an unlimited data plan or something to that affect. Does that matter or should I be worried about be charged an additional amount? I have a data plan already. Thanks.

Pretty much. One other way is to slide the keyboard. How else do you currently wake up the phone?

Remember, this is "No Lock"... not "No Lock And Never Go To Sleep".

Right now, I tap the power button and then slide the lock. But I come from a Blackberry Storm where all I had to do was tap the screen or any button. I know I trade some conveniences for other conveniences, and I'm far from complaining, but anything I can do to make it easier for me I will try to do.

So with No Lock, waking the phone is down to a one button push (any button on my OG Droid). The same thing went on with your Storm, you had to push something to wake up the phone. I am having trouble seeing the difference besides the size of the target that is available for you to push.

The Storm was/is able to accomplish that task because of the way the screen operates (as you well know, the whole screen physically moves), no other touch screen phone uses that technology and therefore I don't think you will be able get the exact same functionality. But as I said, with No Lock it's down to a one button push, it just goes about it differently and I am not aware of any way to change that basic element beyond what has been discussed here already.

OK. It sounds like just what I need. I just wanted to be sure. By the way Razoo, I found No Lock in the market easily.

Try here: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock&feature=search_result

As for the warning, without seeing the exact screen I can't tell you for sure, but more than likely that is a standard warning letting you know the app may cause your phone to consume data for whatever reason, and you may need to monitor your overall usage if you have a limit. Think of it this way, if all you do is upload/download video all day... Stream podcasts and email large data files, there is a chance you can go over a 2 gig limit (whatever limit you have), and then you will get charged extra.

Basically they are just saying, "Don't blame us if you go over your data limit, we are not responsible for your usage, and you have been warned."

Thanks, got it and it works fine. Nice feature when you only have 1 hand available. Did someone say this disables the sleep feature? Also will it disable the pocket feature? Thanks again for all your help.

It doesn't not disable the "Sleep" mode, which is something unique to this phone that basically is almost like turning it all the way off... almost. The "Sleep" mode (that you get on your power-off menu) will still work. All this does is make is so that the lock screen doesn't come up when you wake up the screen on your phone that is already on (and in idle). Not sure what effect, if any, it would have on the pocket feature. I should think it would have no effect, but then again, that pocket feature never worked for me anyway.
