disable message preview

Can anyone help me disable the message preview that shows up in the top notification bar when I get a new text or email?

In the main page of text messages, click "more" in the upper right corner. Then select "settings" and then "notifications". Turn off pop up.

That won't disable notifications in the status bar. I think the only way to disable status bar notifications is to disable notifications for messages all together.
