Disable predictive text?

Is there a way to disable predictive text for the HTC Evo? It's horrible. I type "is" and it replaces it with "os"; I type "have" and get "hace". I've gone to Settings > Language and Keyboard > Touch Input > Text Input, but the option for Prediction is checked and gray'd out.

I really need to disable this, or replace it somehow. It makes typing so much more slower than I would be without it.

Select the word you want instead of what it picks for you (default is middle) instead of hitting space and it should learn to predict what you're typing for more accurately.

check to make sure that button that also serves as google's speak to text is set to EN instead of ES for spanish. That ES annoyed the hell out of me.

I'd recommend getting either swiftkey 3 keyboard or swipe beta, much better than the stock keyboard.
