Disabling cameras shutter sound

If you replace the shutter sound files with silent ones (make them in audacity) it will work, but not straight away for some reason.

OK it is not the carriers fault I tried Dow loading apps removing the sound files replacing it with the American file turning the volume waay down and coming back into the camera if some of you guys read what I wrote in previous post the sound cannot be turned off no matter what it's sad to say without root I can't turn if off :( the whole reason I moved from iPhone was because I hated doing the research and stuff just to jailbreak now I got to note 3 and now I got to root defeats the whole purpose :(

posted from my note 3 ...

Silent snap does work to silence the shutter only and does not change the original camera app otherwise. I tried camera zoom fx as it was said to have better pic quality,b ut I found it would not silence my shutter and the picture quality was worse for me...Maybe I didn't have the settings correct or something, but the zoom I got with original camera app was much clearer than with anything else.

Silent snap just loweres the volume while you have camera open and returns it to previous setting when you exit camera...you do have to set it as your default camera app if you wanyt it to work but it is still just the camera with a different icon.

I found that with my Note 3 the app could not be downloadad or installed because of the security issue related to "unknown source".
So, what I did firstly was to download the app into my computer then into Dropbox.
When it was in Dropbox in the Note 3 I got the above message again.
I then went into "Settings" - "General" - "Security" - untick "Unknown sources". (It only does it one at a time so no risk for other unknown apps).
This enabled me to install the app. You then untick the box at the top and hey presto no more shutter sounds!

OK. This issue has been driving me nuts, as both my larger dogs (blue heelers) are totally traumatized by the camera shutter sound (which seems even worse when you take a screen shot). They both run off in all directions with their ears flat and terrified. Been looking for several hours...and found the solution is simple. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and I love it...but that bloody camera sound is damned annoying (I'm not the only one that finds this apparently).
OK....press volume button (either button will do) then quickly press settings cog-wheel. Set Volume and Media how you want it...then totally turn right down the other two - ie Notifications and System.

Simple as that. It works! Yipeeeee

** Oh crap - it only works on screen shots...not normal picture shot. OK well the only way is put the damned thing on vibration then. Grrrrrrr

Found a way to do this. Put the camera in video mode. Start the video then press pause. The camera now works without the irritating shutter noise

Regarding muting the Note® 4's stock camera shutter sound, I use and would advocate the free Play Store app "SilentCam Switch" …

https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=com.jamworks.silentcam&token=KUyf1UXA

… a tiny 0.5  MB app that I found does the job and doesn't require root. It's an app that's really just a switch, "App is disabled" or "App is enabled", and when enabled meshes with the stock camera app to mute the shutter sound for those whose Note® 4 firmware doesn't have that provision, like mine.

The first time you run the app it will (transparently) take you to :

  Settings
   ▸ System
    ▸ Security
     ▸ Apps with usage access

… and you just need to checkmark the app :

  • SilentCam Switch ✔

… but this need be done only once like I said . . . after that you just need to make sure "App is enabled" is showing in the app for it mute the stock camera's shutter sound.

As far as this last goes, it shutter muting will remain "enabled" as long as the phone isn't rebooted. So if you don't reboot your phone for 3 days, any pictures you take in those 3 days will be taken with a silent shutter. If you reboot fairly regularly and tend to take pictures frequently and want the shutter to be silent all the time, you'll need to enable it after every reboot, which basically just entails 3 taps :  tap to launch the app, tap to change "disabled" to "enabled", tap to back out of the app. At that point you're geared for silent picture taking until the next reboot of your device. So while it hardly takes 5 seconds to enable the app, I couldn't help wish for an "Automatically enable with every boot" setting.

This last is the only drawback, and is why I gave the app 4 stars instead of 5 in my rating, but on the plus side it works perfectly with the Note® 4, even if your device isn't rooted (mine is, but the app doesn't require it) and works without you having to mute the device or alter your sound settings in any way.
