Disabling/uninstalling stock apps (messenger, email, etc)?

I use Gmail and Google Voice for email and texting, but I keep getting notifications from the stock apps as well. Is there a way to disable/uninstall stock apps?

In the respective apps, disable notifications. You should find it under settings.
