Disappearing Apps

I've had quite a few apps simply disappear from my phone. If I have a shortcut to it on my homepage it gets replaced by one of those generic green/white android icons, but it won't open the app as it's GONE.

Anyone else?

Freaking annoying.

I never had issues like this on my iPod Touch. Might be looking at an iPhone next time.

If they were on SD then it is normal on the Optimus at least for me, usually a reboot fixes it. Do not reinstall because you will end up with duplicate apk files.

SD Card!!!!

This is a known issue with this phone. LG is aware of this issue. There are three ways to fix the app shortcuts from disappearing.
1. Resetting your phone if they disappear.
2. Don?t put your apps on your sd card.
3. Or best way to permanently fix the issue is to use a different sd card.

I change my sd card and the issue went away. I took my old sd card and saved the info on my PC. Than copied the info to my new sd card. Make sure you have you PC set to view hidden files. If not you will not copy all the files needed to your new sd card.

1. I unmounted the SD card and then re-mounted it and some of them came back.
2. I have to put some on the SD card as there isn't enough room on the phone's memory for all of my apps.
3. I'm actually using an aftermarket SD card. Class 4 compliant Kingston I believe.

I guess it's something I'll have to deal with until it's time to upgrade (again).

Thanks.

I have a SANDISK 2GB SD card and a Kingston 8GB card, never had an issue with any of them, however, the swapping SD cards may be the best bet

btw, people don't take kindly to persons noting they will defect to be a slave to Mr. Jobs in these parts... ;)

I have same issue. very annoying. Sometimes restart works, sometimes it doesn't. If i move all my apps to internal storage my phone will never boot as it will be out of memory. With rooted phone and custom ROM my phone only had 160MB of internal memory after clean boot. Big oversight on LG part

Androinica ? Google kills 21 Trojan apps in the Android Market that were stealing data

Did you hear news about that?

Maybe some of the apps that disappeared were part of the trojan batch that was released?

Wear protection!

If you didn't get that email, then the disappearing apps weren't due to Google removing them.

Hey I have been having the same problem

No google message

Some apps are there, while some aren't

So unfortunately after rebooting, nothing happened.

Also I was unable to remove the SD card, could figure out how to do it....
but if I switched the cards wouldn't I loose my contacts, pics, etc...

I also have a Samsung captivate...

Any suggestions?

Whenever I see this problem now, I unmount the SD card and then remount it and everything is cool again.

I also had this problem...repeatedly.

Tried 3 SD cards to no avail.
Rebooted phone countless times. Nope.
Complete wipe of phone. Nope.
Considered rooting, but had an email exchange with Jerry H and decided that I would call Sprint. Talked with a tech there who "updated" my device, but not with any OTA update. Since then, I have installed numerous apps on my card, and have not lost one. It's been about 5 days. I'll try to post an update if something happens, but so far, so good.

SDHC has been around for quite awhile now. I imagine a phone as recent as the optimus S would definitely support SDHC

Ive had 2 different Opt's with 2 different sd cards with this problem. The sd card reader in these phones is junk IMHO. Im on my 4th Opt S. The constant freezing/reboots is starting to make this phone a POS.

It's strange, when I first got the phone I had a lot of those problems...rebooted all the time and heated up real bad...and then after a while it all just stopped, not sure why. Wish I knew what the deal was :P

Ive had 3 that have had this issue. Ive replaced everything from the sd card (replaced twice) and 2 new batteries. Mine has heated up and shut itself off numerous times. It'll be ok for a few days and then it would reboot itself a few times a day. Im getting more and more upset with each "reman'd" phone that I get.

I have a similar problem with my Captivate....I noticed some apps just disappear...they were not on a home page but they were on the SD card..The Android Market shows them as not installed when I search for them in the market...I have reinstalled them and everything seems ok right now although I did have two disappear again yesterday.....Very annoying since I am not sure what else has disappeared...

After I boot the phone I usually just restart my launcher (LauncherPro) after it has done the sdcard preparing by pressing MENU, PREFERENCES, RESTART LAUNCHERPRO and they all show up. I have over 60 apps installed on my phone and I always move them to sdcard with TitaniumBackup. I only leave Handsent, LauncherPro, WeatherWidget & Forecast, and Lookout on the phone's internal memory, that way on the initial boot it all works like it should. After the restart of the LauncherPro all my apps show up. Most apps install on sdcard and when it comes up it doesn't get detected by the launcher because it's "preparing sd card..."

If you don't have LaunchePro you can MENU, SETTINGS, APPLICATIONS, MANAGE APPLICATIONS, ALL, YOUR LAUNCHER, FORCE CLOSE then press HOME key.
