Discuss: Speedtest.net application and wifi caps

Anyone noticing any issues with the maximim wifi speed when using the speedtest.net application?

As of before I only had a 3mb down, 2mb up connection, but my cable company upgraded so now we have 20mb down and 2mb up.

When i launch the same server from my home computer i get:



I also get the same from my laptop connected to the same wifi network, so its not the router.

When i run from my EVO i get what seems to be a cap of 6-8mb down and 2mb upload.

When i load the page through the stock android browser ( which has flash) and run the test i end up getting

2.2mb down
.81mb up
295ms latency

Obviously the browser itself is slowing down the speed here, but i wondered if anyone else has the same issue?


1xrTT OFF 3g OFF/ 4g OFF this is straight WIFI for all tests.

Do you think this is a limitation of the app?

~8mbps down is about max for just about every smartphone.

I'm getting 19Mbs sec myself. That's a little under 2/3 what my laptop gets. Methinks you have a problem somewhere.

No I've gotten 18/4 on the EVO. It's not the app and it's not a limitation of the EVO.

How far from the router? It certainly could be 8 if you are a distance from the router, speed drops the farther away you are. Try it literally right next to the router.

Laptop and EVO, same distance from router, aren't going to test the same speed.

All wireless computers in my home.
PC (wireless N) gets 20mb down and 4.5 up
Windows 7 Laptop, (wireless N) 15 down and 4 up
Windows XP laptop, (wireless G)7 down 4 up
Evo on WiFi just under 14 down and 4 up.

So in short, I am not seeing any cap on mine. It is falling in line with my other devices well.

I have att uverse...i have the 12 mb per sec package...my pc says it gets 11.5.... and i never get past 6.0 on my evo....why?

So I think u may be on to something. Although its prob a setting that is messed up. I usually get 15-20 on all my pc's and laptops here.

Just got less than 1mbps down but 2. 4 up. Wtf?? Did it 3 times with the same result. Everytime it goes up to . 7-. 9 mb down and just stop there. Like there is some cap. Strange

My internet connection is 101/15. Right on top of the router (wireless N) with the EVO I cannot get more than about 20/3. So if there's any "cap" it would be around there.

But I think that your phone is going to get slower speeds simply because it's a phone and not a full blown PC.

I have the same issue. As I'm typing this I'm getting a pretty consisten 4.5mbit down and 2mbit up, when my actual internet connection speed is around....



It actually didn't used to be this slow. When I first got the phone it would usually cap out around 9 mbit.

Hell yes, love it.

I get the boost (30/5) for free cuz my sister and law works for Cablevision. I'm very pleased with it but damn I'm so tempted to get Ultra man. I can't imagine how fast that **** is lol. Beats the Fios 50/20 AND it's a LOT cheaper.
