Display on ICS-

Seems that battery is getting killed by display. I was able to disable animations in GB and now don't see that ability. In addition, the lower end of the brightness spectrum seems dimmer.

What can we do to fix the display usage? Any advice?

I'm not sure this will help, but being part of the Soak Test I know Motorola was specifically asking for information about Battery issues and was concerned about it. I'm sure they will and probably are working on a patch to look at battery issues.

I don't believe the Gingerbread ROM was very accurate at all on it's battery usage stats.

Same here. Current battery is 71% screen and second most is Android OS at 9%. 3 hours and 19 mins into charge and down to 70%. Screen is a major problem. Everything else is butter smooth.

My battery was 10x better on GB, this isn't acceptable to me.

This may seem like a pain, and sounding like a broken record from Verizon, but if you don't mind, try a factory reset. I'm not sure how many people were complaining on this board after the last update about battery issues, even though it was supposed to make the battery life better. I had that problem, factory reset solved it, and battery life was amazing.

On a side note, i went almost 18 hours on my phone and it was at 47%before i threw it on the charger. That was with lots of use and on screen time exploring ICS.

What all will I lose/have to resetup after a factory restore?

Not sure i will make 12 hours on this battery anymore. I really don't want to factory reset either...

Well if you have any photos on the internal memory that you would like to keep, back them up using back up assistant or put them on your computer. Also, all the apps you have will be deleted and any progress you have made in a game will be lost. Luckily in the play store, you don't have to search for all the apps you had before. Just go to your apps, then go to the right for all apps. They will be there and can re download them.

Big pita, i know, but i may help.

It really depends on how much time you are willing to spend resetting your phone vs. how much time you are willing to lose by not having your battery working efficiently.

Setting everything up for me after a reset takes 30 minutes and I most definitely can't have my phone losing power like that.

Its like this....with a desktop OS....the last resort is a reinstall of the OS. I see a factory reset as the same thing.

I would do it just to rule it out as a solution. if you do it and it fixes things....you will be glad you did. If you do it and it doesnt.....thats ammo when you talk to Verizon about possibly a new phone.

Factory reset isnt going to change the display... but it does use a huge amount of battery. I'm a pretty heavy user though

Strange, my battery is the same if not better. My screen is on automatic brightness and it dims down further than it ever did on GB thus saves me some battery.

FWIW I did a Factory Reset before and after I downloaded ICS and I have the same issue with the display consuming a high percentage of the battery. I just checked and the display is responsible for 75% of the battery consumption and I'm down to a 60% charge after just five hours.

Add me to the list of people who are not too impressed with Motorola's ability to perform an OTA upgrade.

It is always a good idea to erase your phone either before or after upgrading to a new OS. Not a problem for a simple patch but trying to use a new OS with all of the files you were using with Gingerbread is asking for problems. I upgraded and then erased my phone and started from scratch. It is a pain in the behind but will probably eliminate many of the issues most users are complaining about, other than new ICS features or processes that are built into the software.

Imo everything with the display is crap. The notifications in the bar are way too small. I used to be able to get by with the lowest setting on the brightness spectrum and now that's impossible. My screen has to be at least 30% to compare to that. Screen is just killing the battery. Hopefully the battery will get back to par after a few cycles. I did a factory reset last night so well see

I installed ICS when it was leaked. The first day, I saw my battery life was horrible. I complained about it and someone said to give it time to recalibrate the battery usage metering. So, I did a factory reset, and installed my stuff again. Just about three days later, my battery life was about back to where it was on GB. It worked for me. It just took some time to reinstall stuff. I've been running ICS for over a week. Battery is fine now.

well thats promising to know, hope it works for me as well! But im willing to bet the screen having to be set so high or on auto will hurt my battery
