Ditch my S6 edge for the Nexus 5x?

Am I crazy? On paper, the S6 edge is one of the best Android phones out there, and mine has been mostly great, with the exception of battery life. But I'm really drawn to the simplicity of the 5x. It retains the size I'm used to, fast charging, a great camera, and a convenient fingerprint reader, and adds the guarantee of quick updates and support for the next few years. I don't game or watch movies on my phone, and since it's in a case, I don't really care about the "premium" build. 1080 screen resolution is plenty high for me. Honestly, I can't find the downside of selling my s6 edge and getting one, but am I overlooking something?

I love my 5x but I don't think it's an upgrade over the S6. Unless security updates and the latest builds matter that much. Samsung will pretend to care about you at least until its time for the S7.

I went from an iPhone 5s to the nexus 5 last year. Amaaaazing phone I loved it but didn't feel complete. There was always something missing. Found out what it was the day I switched from the nexus 5 to the One M8. Built quality is something very important to me especially when I'm spending hundred of dollars on a small piece of technology which I carry and look at hundred times a day.

It's what htc survives on.
What Samsung has finally learned to do.
What apple mastered long ago.
LG finally managed to put in the V10.
Motorola does it most uniquely.
Sony has broken boundaries with.

Built quality matters.
And I think if it wasn't for the size issue, Nexus 5X would've had a tough time selling. There hasn't been much competition in that smaller size category this year.

The S6 has a few drawbacks, in my opinion, that are hard to overlook:

- glacial software updates
- battery life is only 'ok'
- reception was absolutely terrible on mine

The N5X beats it in these crucial points and that's good enough for me.

Honestly, if it were me I'd pick the Nexus over the S6 every time. I prefer stock Android and a totally unlocked experience. I don't like Samsung's awful software, and they don't support their phones for very long either. It's obviously a tough call because you're asking us, so good luck.

Take the 'build quality' and 'premium feel' comments with a grain of salt..

I recently had an iPhone 6S that I purchased on iLaunch day. Fabulous device but every time I touched it I thought is was going to slip out of my hand.. Had a Note 5 for a week and it was returned for the same reason. The Note 5, in addition to being very slippery, was a fingerprint magnet! Use it for a few minutes and it looked like it had came out of a war zone!

I love, love, love the feel of the Nexus 5X. I don't think it feel cheap at all. The whole 'build quality' and 'premium' argument is overrated in my opinion if in order to get 'build quality' or 'premium feel' it means that every time you touch the phone, you risk it slipping out of your hand. Next will come the argument 'get a case' and it won't be slippery. LOL! Doesn't slapping a case on it negate the whole 'build quality' and 'premium feel' argument?

Any who, take those comments with a grain of salt. I carry my devices naked and have zero interest in cases...

The Nexus 5X is a fantastic phone. It feels good in the hand and the fingerprint reader is accurate and lightning fast!! It's faster than the iPhone's 6S reader and it's faster than the fingerprint reader on the Note 5..

Yeah, that's exactly my thought process. To me, build quality makes me appreciate the phone for the first few hours until I get a case on it, so I have absolutely no problem with plastic. Plus, I'd like to be able to count on getting software updates/new features/better security for a lot longer and a lot more frequently than the S6. The fact that the Nexus cameras can actually be compared to Samsung's latest this year is what really nails it for me. Of course, if they made a 5p I'd be all over it, but I think a 5x will work just fine

The iPhone doesn't just have good storage options. It's overall a good device. I personally don't prefer the OS as I am very comfortable and prefer the way Android can be customized.

I don't like iOS one bit. It's too locked down for my taste, and Apple drives their factory workers to suicide.

Android is far superior in my opinion. The operating system is capable of doing far more, and with my Nexus I can do what I want with it. I can't stand a company selling overpriced hardware and telling their customers they can't do what they want with it.

Interesting point. My big issue with Android and Nexus phones are the following:

Android

1. Material design is nice but I feel the design of the messaging system as well as the overall look and feel could be so much better. I think it looks too like a cartoon rather than a more polished professional look.

Nexus Phones

1. They should provide you with headphones..they did with the Nexus 4!

2. Just when you think they are moving forward they decide to go a step back and leave out wireless charging. Can't understand that.

3. Why render all your charging cables useless when not everyone have laptops with USB Type C ports.

Currently, I have a Moto X 2013 with 32GB. Since I prefer the small form factor, I was deciding between the Galaxy S6 64GB over the Nexus 5X 32GB based on the following advantages for both:
Nexus 5X - Less expensive by $137 (w/ sales tax), stock Android (not a fan of Touch Wiz).
Galaxy S6 - Build quality, AMOLED display, benchmark performance, 64GB capacity.

Yesterday, I bought the Nexus 5X on sale at B&H for $324 ($349 less $25 gift card), which was almost 1/2 of the Galaxy S6 price of $599 (on sale at T-Mobile). That is a savings of $275.

The Galaxy S6 64GB is a nice phone, but IMHO not worth $275 more than the Nexus 5X.
