Divested Alltel to get Milestone

So, the thread title says most of it (no price yet). I live in the middle of nowhere so Alltel and the big V are my only choices, Alltel has been very good to me in the past but their technology is way behind while waiting on ATN to take over (I guess).

I was planning to switch but my Alltel rep asked me to wait (2 weeks ago) as they were getting another Android device that was unknown at the time. They released the info today and I don't think I'm impressed. It's the Milestone with 2.1 on it but no other real info besides that.

So, as a current BB user...is the new technology worth switching for? I should have good coverage either way as V owns all the towers locally anyway. Or do I stick with older tech and known good customer service?

Any particular advantages with the Milestone? Or disadvantages?

I'm very curious to see what the price tag is either way.

Only 8 posts so can't show the link but i'm sure anyone who is interested can find it!

Thanks!

Honestly I say pass you would be better of getting the desire from us cellular than this phone. I don't think the milestone will get 2.2 but that's just me. Shoot pick up the captivate from att seeing they will be the same company soon

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. US Cellular isn't an option in my region and ATN is picking up my Alltel area, rather than AT&T....ATN seems to be a big unknown and that concerns me since I can't find out any opinions about their customer service.

Alltel was bought out by Verizon. Alltel has a CDMA network so it will not be the milstone more likely the droid.

No alltel also had a gsm network that was being picked by att then I guess another portion is being bought out by atn
But i don't know you should get 30 days to cancel your contract after the buy out so that is an option. In my opinion the milestone isn't worth getting its past its prime and is being phased out. If you have sprint pick them up or even tmo if they have service. But I don't want you to spend your money on a phone that has little chance of seeing 2.2 or anything afterwards kinda waste of money in my book

Hmmm, I used to have alltel and I got a letter in the mail telling me my account was switched over to Verizon and no further action was required. Kept my old alltel phone and it worked fine on Verizon. My old phone was a razor too, no dual band radio in it.

That's because Verizon is also cdma so alltel phones still work after the switch as long as you still have an alltel plan.

I'm pretty sure alltel had gsm but it could be that part of them were sold off to att. I know I was with alltel like 5 years ago and the had both gsm and cdma phones were I was

Sorry for multiple replies. Not ALL of Alltel was purchased by Verizon, in some markets the two were the only choices....monopoly laws require that Verizon had to allow someone else to operate in those areas. So, AT&T got some areas and ATN bought others, my area will be ATN.
