DL offline Google Maps for hours

I have AT&T and my Galaxy Note 4 phone is sruck in a download cancelling of offline maps loop for Google Maps. What is this and how do we stop it. I have Android 6.01 and it's is killing my bettery. I thought I stopped it but it started again.

What if you go to the App Manager, select Maps, then Storage, then Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop? When you open it again, it should resync with your account, so you won't lose any data. Hopefully the glitch will be gone.

B, thanks, it eventually stopped and I was able to kill an address it was downloading, one that I never heard of.
