Do custom roms address the Optimus V battery drain bug?

Hello,

I've been browsing these forums for about a week now and have found a lot of useful information on here. I did a lot of reading and finally installed my first custom rom (aospCMod-VM670-20110601-signed). My main reasons for wanting to get away from stock was in hopes of addressing the battery drain bug that the phone suffers from. I have now had the phone rooted for a couple days now but haven't seemed to notice an improvement in battery life. I have all known battery hogs turned off (wifi, gps, brightness, data sync) and I have not overclocked the cpu. Can someone confirm if this or other custom roms have actually made efforts to address this issue? Thanks in advance.

Some of the froyo based ROMs get much better battery life than aospCM7, you might try one of them.

aospCM7 is the bleeding edge of development for this phone, and as such will probably not have the best battery life.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you make any recommendations? All I'm really looking to get from the custom rom I install is a fix for the battery drain bug.

I get 24 hours or more on one charge with occasional use on Harmonia. I also have Juice Defender installed and that helped my battery life as well.

You don't mention what kind of battery life you are getting. How long does your battery last? Keep in mind, all smartphones are notorious for bad battery life. There is a lot going on in there. I'm running Harmonia, and with a few phone calls, a couple of hours of gaming, some surfing, a couple of hours of running kindle I still have around 40% at the end of the day. As with all smartphones, you will have to charge every night if you use your phone. Also, check your cell standby in the battery usage menu. If your time without signal is 50% or more, check out the time without signal fix. You can try turning on airplane mode for about 30 seconds the turn it back off. There is also a flashable .zip you can install. Think it is on xda, just search for it.

If the battery drain bug you're thinking about is the 50% tws bug, then yes some roms do take care of that issue. You happen to be running one of those roms, aosp has fixed that issue. Unfortunately, though that particular problem is fixed, cm7 based roms are never known for their battery life, on any android phone. So the battery savings you may be seeing with the tws issue fixed is being counterbalanced by a rom that doesn't have great battery life to begin with.

So now you want to try out a rom that has fixed the 50% tws issue and has good battery life. Right now for the 2.2 roms (which have much better battery life than the 2.3 roms like aosp), I believe Bumblebee is the only one that has fixed the tws issue. All other 2.2 roms, you have to toggle airplane mode for about 15 seconds or so every time you boot to address the issue.

i still have that bug even with a new rom. everytime i unplug the phone it starts to discharge. i hope somebody can help

If you're talking about the 50% tws bug, then as I said, two roms have it fixed, aospmod and bumblebee. With any other rom, you have to toggle airplane mode for 15 seconds on boot to resolve it, and this must be done every time you reboot your phone.

I use bumblebee's rom after trying a few of the other ones. I had used juice defender with it and i was looking at over 24 hours of battery life. I disabled it due to the hassle with Grooveip and stuff but even without JD battery life is good enough. Just seems like overall the best one for me. I'd donate to the dude (assuming it's a guy) if I wasn't in so much debt. Don't go to college unless you know it's 100 percent paid for!

I'm still getting the TWS bug on bumblebee's rom. What's the "official" fix? Airplane mode doesn't seem to work for me, thought the ##*42whatever## trick does...

I thought Reborn had it built in, then I thought about battery life lol. I have had mine unplugged for about 5 hours and lost over 30 percent of my battery. Cell standby is sitting at 58% lol. Also sitting with the 50% TWS. Time to switch.

A clean install of any ROM should give you 24 hours on light usage, 14-20 with moderate usage, and at least 10-12 with heavy usage.

Here's my results today with light usage, half a dozen short calls, checking email every hour or when notified, checking on the US Open via Score Mobile widget a bunch of times, using maps several times, reading over a dozen news articles via News&Weather widget, checking the market for updates and installing two, all on aospCM7 which is one of the worst battery hogs (but an excellent rom ;) )

Notice the sudden drop 2/3 thru the day, I actually dropped my phone and had the battery come out for the first time, almost messed my pants till it booted up ok!

Two ROMs I have had luck with is Harmonia, on my wife's phone and Reborn. On Harmonia with the free version of juice defender and no overclocking my wife can get 24hr on one charge. I would consider her a light user. I have Reborns ROM on my phone with the ultimate version of juice defender with light use I can get almost two days with heavy I can get maybe 15 to 16 hours
