So i learnt that i need to flash stock images in order to sideload the ota. Thankfully WugFresh can do that without wiping my data. The only question i have is do i flash my current versions stock image (5.0.1) or do i flash the 5.1's stock image?

so i flashed the stock image and then successfully sideloaded the ota but it is stuck on the google lock screen. what is there for me to do?

You can either flash the stock image and totally wipe the phone, or use the ota to upgrade from 5.0.1 to 5.1

you mean try sideloading the ota again?
btw thank you for helping me with this!

I told you to flash the image you wanted to go to. You apparently want 5.1 but you flashed 5.01 and now you're trying to side load 5.1? What am I missing? Why didn't you just flash 5.1 from jump street? and always make a backup of the virtual sdcard at least.

i flashed 5.1 stock image and then sideloadeded 5.1 ota update. heres the complete rundown: after flashing stock image, my phone optimized apps and in "about phone" it said 5.1. I assumed that this was simply because of the flash and that it didn't sideload the ota also. I then proceeded to sideload the ota which went fine until it told me to reboot the system which is what i did only to be stuck on the google lockscreen.
thank you for your help and patience, i really do appreciate it

so i did not do the platform tools thing or the command prompt because i used WugFresh to sideload the ota but everything went the same all the way until he rebooted and mine stayed on the google lockscreen

am i able to reflash stock image and try everything all over again even though i am stuck on the google screen?

do i even need to flash again, can i just try sideloading again or is that not possible? sorry for the noobish questions

So.. You were already on 5.1? Why did you flash an ota? 5.1 is the latest...

just to clear the air, is flashing the stock image the same as sideloading the ota?

No... I believe when you flash a stock image, it erases everything on your phone, you are replacing everything on your with the stock, factory image that Google made. An ota, or, Over The Air, is an update that Google sends out that amends what you already have and upgrades it to the latest version. You keep the data on your phone and you get the latest version.

What did you do, it sounds like you flashed a 5.1 ota update on to of a 5.1 version already.

following your logic, it seems i flashed google stock image of 5.1 and then sideloading the 5.1 ota. i was under the assumption through other informers that flashing and sideloading were two different steps not essentially the same thing

They are two different things. They can both get you 5.1. In order to fix your problem, you should simply just re flash the factory image...

get the image from there, then follow the link on that page on how to flash the factory image... I don't exactly know what's wrong with your phone, but basically you'd be erasing everything and starting over fresh. I would get a second opinion just in case, though.

i was thinking that also, the only problem i believe is that being stuck on the lock screen, my command prompts ans wugfresh do not recognize my phone but i will try right now

You've now got four threads going for essentially the same issue. Please stay in thread going forward.
