Do I need to unroot to activate my phone?

Simple as the title. I have my BB 9930, and want to come back to my Optimus for a few days, and need to know if I need to be stock to activate it. I am currently stock, with the ZVH OTA. Can I go through the process of rotting it before I activate it? Or can I root before hand?

Phones usually don't rot, but you can root it before or afterwards, doesn't matter. The root won't affect whether you can activate or not and it won't get overwritten by activating. It is best if you are on stock rom (rooted or not) when you activate though, as the tools used to provision your phone are guaranteed to be on the stock rom. gRom probably includes them as well, but I'm not 100% sure.

Stupid me. Haha. Rotting is a word, so I didn't see it was incorrect. But thanks for your answer! :)

You can have it rooted, but you have to be on the factory Sprint ROM or a ROM based on the factory Sprint ROM. For example, you can't do it while running cm7.

Technically though, I do have archived in my 4shared lgnpst/the ls670.dll
with which you can on any rom access the phone data, and provision it yourself easily, with sprint the mobile directory number is the same so you number goes in both fields, then you place your information in the data fields according to the mip data thread, although it would be far to simply allow the provisioning provided by the stock to do it. Sprint's is automatic so doing a nandroid, flashing a stock rom then restoring should be quite easy. much easier than using the programming tool.
=P

MDN and MSID only match if you got your number originally from Sprint. If you ported your number to Sprint, they do not match.

Are you sure? My MDN and MSID do not match and I've had the same Sprint number for 8-ish years. It was not ported. Could be a fluke though.

Even if you got your # from Sprint it can "not" match. However if they match, they came from Sprint. The ported #s always don't match. It is because of WLNP (number portability) and how they handle the forwarding/routing tables.

That makes sense. But the strange thing is they DID match until I got my Optimus. I'm not worried about it but it is a little strange.
