Hi guys! I currently own motorola Atrix 4g and I think its a really awesome device. But I'm considering getting XOOM, although the price is kinda too high for me right now...From what I understand Atrix and Xoom got almost the same specs in terms of memory and CPU, so shelling out $600+tax for a 10.1 inch screen and Honeycomb is kind of a dealbreaker for me.. Also, having a wifi only version limits me to hotspots only, but switching to a tethering plan will add a higher monthly cost to my data plan. So I am trying to decide if I really need this device when my Atrix does everything Xoom would do except for the display size.... Would reallly appreciate your comments of the subject. Thanks!

I maybe wrong here, but I think you should check out the accessories you have available for the Atrix. Mainly something called the Lapdock. Cheaper then xoom and will give a bigger screen then the xoom when hooked up.

True. But I've heard the lapdock experience is lacking sorely right now. Plus the Xoom has honeycomb which means its a different breed of device from android 2.x. unlike the ipad it is actually an in-between from phone to computer (the ipad really is just a big iPod, there's no denying it)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm aware of the lapdock, though the price of this thing is almost equally high as XOOM so at this point if i had to choose between these two i'd take Xoom without a doubt.... I am actually planning to go to any verizon store today and hold Xoom in my hands, see how it feels and play with it a bit... The only reason i might convince myself in getting Xoom is the fact that it will replace two of my home computers (a desktop and a laptop) which are painfully slow....

Well don't look at the Xoom as a laptop/ Desktop replacement it doesn't come close. Tablets serve their own purpose. I do suggest in investing in getting QuickOffice they have a discount going on for $10 and a bluetooth keyboard so you can use to create and edit large documents, using Google Docs not as easy in desktop mode in the browser.

I can tell you that i have the Xoom and NEED the Bionic.. Two great devices that each fill a seperate need of mine. My cpu usage is not tech heavy just surfing and browsing. the Xoom actually gives me more to do with the use off apps. i love sitting with it on my lap just messing around. I also like to be able to take out to places where i know i will be looking stuff up. sure i could do it on my phone but i love the bigger screen. and its easier to touch click the larger screen. the phone fills the need of an all day everyday phone and emergency internet/board and need something to do for a few minute device..

Thanks for your feedback guys! i went to Verizon store and Staples today, played with Xoom... I really like how it looks. Although i noticed that the xoom in verizon store was a bit laggy and also this thing is actually a little heavy.. you can definetely feel this weight in your hands.. I think I'll end up buying it eventually... just have to figure out where to get $600 without hurting my budget too much LOL

According to my local ATT store manager... nationwide they are having a ~ 90% return rate on the Atrix/Lapdock combo...
Actively talked me out of the purchase.
Says... "Great concept... Very POOR execution"...

YMMV

Trevalkin, it all depends on what you want to do with the Xoom. Depending on your usuage, a Xoom might not work for a laptop/desktop replacement. I have most of the devices you listed and my productivity is 200% faster on a desktop versus my Atrix and Xoom.

I do have the Atrix with laptop dock and a Verizon Xoom as well. To get the bulk of my computing done, I rely on my desktop. Everyone is different, keep in a mind a tablet is still a niche device.

If you want, just get it!

Like Jason100RR, I also I have the Atrix, Laptop dock and Verizon Xoom and use them differently. I find tablets useful for certain task but other times I need a keyboard. While I know I could use a bluetooth keyboard with my Xoom, it's not the best solution when your sitting on the couch and need a keyboard, IMO. Think of the Laptop dock as a netbook and how you do or could use it.

As for the Xoom, tablet's have been described by Leo Laporte on TWiT this way, they are a device best suited for consumption of information not creation and I agree for the most part. I use it mostly for reading websites and watching video's as examples.

I think both are great solutions for my needs and do not regret owning both, but that's me.
